The Topic is: Overview of TCP/IP Networking, Linux roles and commands.

The meeting time is Monday 2/10/2003 at 7pm in Morse Hall room 301.

The goal for this meeting will be to explain all of the types of
TCP/IP networking gear, giving human examples of how it all works. We
will then cover which of these roles can be performed by Linux.
Commonly used commands will also be explained and demonstrated.

Covered Hardware: Repeaters, Bridges, Switches, Routers

Covered Software: Firewalls, Proxies, Domain Name Service (DNS),
                  Dynamic Host Configuation Protocol (DHCP)

Covered Concepts: Netmasks, Broadcast Addresses, Private Networks,
		  Network Address Translation (NAT), Address
		  Resolusion Protocol (ARP)

For directions see the web site at http://slug.gnhlug.org.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Next months meeting will be a little different format. For all the
odd months (March, May, ...) we'll be doing problem solution sessions.

The intent is that the user base will provide current problems that
they're experiencing with their linux configurations. The group as a
whole will then work to find an acceptible solution for the given
problem, if one exists. This may involve bringing in systems or
troublesome hardware.

If you have something that would make a good "problem" for next months
meeting please send me an email description and we'll start scheduling
the upcoming meetings.
