7:20 bcache: The best performance boost for hard drives under Linux!
        presented by Bill Stearns

Bill Stearns will be introducing bcache, a new cache module
for Linux. This code uses Solid State Drives (think flash thumb
drives on serious steroids) to act as a cache for existing hard
drives. In some early testing, bcache has shown the ability to
double, triple, and even quadruple the drive performance of
existing disks. We'll look at how it works and where it would
be useful, discuss its current pros and cons and will also do a
live demo. Come to hear an old hard drive scream!

Bill is a System Administrator at Dartmouth College and
consultant for Intelguardians. He is a content author and
faculty member at the SANS Institute, teaching both the Linux
System Administration and Perimeter Security tracks. Bill's
background is in network and operating system security; he
was the chief architect of one commercial and two open source
firewalls and is an active contributor to multiple projects in
the Linux development effort. His spare time is spent
coordinating and feeding a major antispam blacklist, and
assisting the technical community as a volunteer Incident
Handler for the Internet Storm Center.

Bill's articles and tools can be found in SysAdmin magazine,
online journals, and at http://www.stearns.org .

8:50 New York Minute

By popular request: bring your ideas, questions, advertisements,
job offers/searches, etc., we'll go 'round the horn and make
      introductions and announcements.
