sorting pathnames by basename

First, thanks to Kevin and Erik (and all)
for their examples and participation.

Second, when I said that one example "doesn't
suck" I was just trying to be high-larious,
not implying that the other one DID suck.
Apologies for any implied slight, and my
allergies are my own problem.

Third, just as I am a lifelong vi user but
secretly believe that emacs users are superior,
I am most comfortable with shell scripting
but suspect that perl users will always be
able to code circles around me.

Just don't ask me to maintain their code...!  ;->
