  I assume you mean the -k switch?

  On my RHL 7.3 box, which has GNU sort from GNU textutils 2.0.21, the
"info" manual for "sort" states:

>     Warning: the `+POS1' usage is obsolescent.  Future versions of
>     POSIX will require that support for it be withdrawn.  Use `--key'
>     (`-k') instead.
