Problem with directory permissions

I'm running Drake 8.2.  I have Samba running and a shared public
directory to which anyone can create directories, download files, etc.
The share is actually a separate file system that gets mounted on
/home/public.

The directory is owned by root, but I made the permissions 0777 so
anyone could create directories.  Every day or do, the permissions get
changed back to 0755 and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

Any help you can give to help me fix this would be greatly appreciated.
