Alas, all too true.  I would give "the pound of flesh closest my heart"
for a functioning NetApp-like snapshot mechanism.  Ironically, there -is-
a closed-source one, and there were the beginnings of an open-source one.

respectively.  Note that you can barely see didly-squat on Sourceforge,
but the (very, very alpha) code can be downloaded via sourceforge's CVS
server.  It is unmaintained, and MVD probably would have taken it off
long ago if they could have (it was originally their code).  And, no, it
doesn't compile on 2.4.  *sigh*
