Snarfing up a domain name

   The surest way is most likely to use a "back-order" service like 
SnapNames.  I did this successfully last year, but I also knew for certain 
that the original holder would not be renewing.  The domain in question 
was with NetSol/Verisign and it wasn't released for re-registration until 
about 15 months after it expired.
   You might have a long wait ahead.  Most registrars will allow you to 
renew for some time _AFTER_ expiration, and then might still hold the name 
for a year or more.  If you're willing to potentially waste the money you 
can try SnapNames.  If the name isn't released within a year, though, 
you're out $69.
