I have some clients using Third Rail (formerly Spike) out of Nashua.
They use a ?proprietary?
wireless technology. My client has had zero problems over the last year.
No rain or snow fade.
It is line of sight. Third Rail has some contract from the State of NH
to provide wireless
networking throughout the State. So they are putting in PoPs throughout
the state all tied
together over a wired backbone, but providing wireless from the PoP. The
way they provide
it to non-state clients, is to put an antenna in, say an office park,
driven off a wired connection.
Then sell to everyone in the office park. The technology looked good
when I evaluated it five or
six years ago for another client. The company has re-organized and has
new management.
The only reason we didn't use it more years ago was responsiveness, not
technology. Their new
organization is vastly better in that regard. Apparently it is a
moderately old technology (formerly
military). They have it deployed widely in other countries which had no
infrastructure to speak of
already (like Uganda).
