you are right, this thread should be familiar and your guess as to whose
box is being replaced is probably correct as well.
So it would seem nobody has anything bad to say, that's good.
Why pogo linux? We haven't much time to invent anything, it's already
integrated, reported to be proved in, comes with a years on-site
maintenance, yadda yadda. The suits get warm and fuzzy feelings with
stuff like that. The components pogo-linux use (3ware RAID
controller, etc.) get good reviews as well.
We do have a generic PC built with RH8.0 for preliminary benchmarking.
and it passes the general sanity test of "it basically works."
To load test, there is a tool named Bonnie++ we plan to use. We'll
try running it on different clients and different number of clients
both individually and simultaneously to get a feel for expected
performance.
