VMware works *very* well for the occasional windows app. You need
decent hardware and RAM behind it. I run win2k on it and used it to
sync my visor with a MeetingMaker calendar.

Also to sanity check my resume. I write in Abiword and save a copy as
.doc because that's what everyone in the world that's hiring wants. It
does very well saving .doc or .rtf files. Reading them is a bit
harder. I think it's the best app for writing .doc out there except
StarOffice/OpenOffice. It's also faster & smaller then SO/OO.

if you're doing graphics (photoshop, visio, etc) I find the lag in
VMware to be a bit of a problem. YMMV. VMware has a free trial
available for testing.

Some people have also had success with Crossover Office. As I
understand, it won't work with every windows app. Do they have a trial
version?
