This is probably not relevant, but when I was installing Redhat 8.0 
recently, on a old Compaq Proliant 1850R, it loaded a Symbios SCSI driver 
during the install, and the machine would consistently freeze up right 
after autosensing the monitor. Ultimately I found a report on google 
that disabling the built-in ethernet port in the BIOS would work around 
the problem. I did that and popped in a Linksys ethernet card, and the 
install ran fine after that.

Presumably there was some sort of resource conflict. You might try 
looking for a similar conflict on your system.
