Whatever.  I looked at Knoppix and it is quite nice.  It would be great as a means of showing people Linux on their machine without "bothering" it.  Also for install meetings.  It can find almost any hardware or so it seems on a typical PC.  If it configures and runs from the CD, then you can install from the CD with confidence the system will be in good shape.

OTOH it is an odd mixture of Debian packages that might be hard to keep up.
Does provide up to date versions such a KDE 3 and Gnome2 as well as a ton of
applications on the CD such as OpenOffice.  Some 900 in total so it is a decent
distro on a single CD.

Some are starting to customize it for use in schools, etc.
