  I hate to contradict you, but this, at least in some cases is patently
false.  I interviewed for a job back in April and sent my resume in
pdf.  I was then asked to resend it in either Word or text format (bonus
points for whoever can guess which one I chose ;-))  Some companies use
automated applicant tracking databases such as, I believe, Webhire's
technology.  In this case it wouldn't read pdf, but Word or text were
both fine.
