You might want to take another look at GnuCash.  I know they're 
working on getting it to the point where it is a good substitute for 
QuickBooks.  I don't know if it's there yet, but I know that's a big 
item on the ToDo list, since many of the developers are also 
independant consultants who need this functionality.

What are your requirements in a finance package?
