I've used Exchange for a number of years.

It's main benefits are Calendaring (and meeting requests), a Web interface, 
Centralized Contacts, Resource Scheduling (conference rooms, equipment,
etc),
and integration of all these with Palm & Handspring devices (and lately Treo
phones)
