I withdraw that suggestion - I'm guilty of having
posted before I gave Dan's question the attention
it deserved and I now realize that my alleged
"solution" should probably only be considered as
a last resort.

By way of apology for being so quick on the
trigger I'll explain that I've been recently
stuck in a maze-of-twisty-little-RPM-passages
where You Definitely Can't Get There From Here.
The rather heavy-handed invocation of RPM that I
suggested was the only thing that (I could come
up with that) allowed me to teleport myself out
of the mess I was in, so it was the first thing
that came to mind when I glanced at Dan's question.

I'll be glad to get back to Debian.
