I've seen the text of this article reproduced elsewhere as well.

My understanding is that EMI's response in this case was in response
to a German guy who emailed them with a detailed complaint about why a
"Toto" CD (that he legitimately bought) didn't play properly on any of
his computers.

EMI's response, in short:  "tough luck, you pirate".
