Myself, also. However, since discussion threads usually follow a chain of
replies, software can look at the "Message-ID" and "In-Reply-To" headers to
build a "discussion tree".

I would be sorely tempted to say "Don't let the door hit your butt on the
way out", but I suppose that wouldn't be very productive. ;-)

Given Bruce's description of how he got PHP-Nuke to do what he has it
doing, I would say that's a dead-end anyway.
Still, given the huge field of web-BBS software out there (it seems like
everyone and their brother has written one), I would be surprised if
*something* didn't do it.
You may also want to look at mail<->news gateway software. Not that
gating the email list to a newsgroup gives you want you are asking for, but
it may put you one step closer.
