Again, I'm not an expert on this, and I can neither confirm nor deny
that any of my ideas will work (but the more I type them, the more
people around me think that I am actually busy ;-)

In your .htaccess file, try something like:

AuthLDAPAuthoritative On
AuthLDAPURL ldap://server/basedn?attr?scope?filter
require group foo
AuthType Basic
