I had DSL when I lived in Santa Barbara a few years ago. Though Verizon was not my
ISP, they owned the residential lines in my area. This meant that they provided the
physical connection and my ISP provided the Internet service (which meant that
$32.50 went to Verizon and just $4.50 to the ISP each month). So you'll most likely
still have to deal with Verizon if they own your lines.
