I'm not sure about the Palm platform, but these guys (http://www.handhelds.org/)
have Linux running on the Compaq IPAQ.  One of the lead guys on the project came to
the Santa Barbara LUG to give a talk about Linux on handhelds a few years ago.  I
remember the question about Linux on the Palm devices came up during his talk.  I
seem to recall that the design of the Compaq handheld more naturally lent it to
Linux implementation for one reason or another.  Anyhow, if you're interested in
Linux on handhelds, this project might interest you.
