As I recall, they've always included a bunch of compat-* rpms for 
such backward compatibility. I just took a look at 8.0, and I see, 
for example, compat-gcc-g77-7.3-2.96.110.i386.rpm so if you actually 
depended on the pre-3.x gcc, you can still have it.
