It's not a hassle for me, I guess.
(although I love the little Gnome applet that controls xmms, and I
never was able to get this to work on RH8 (I only put 5 minutes of
effort into this, however). I don't have a RH8 box right now
anyways.)
Also, it is a little bit of a hassle fielding questions from people
who I help out with Linux, who come to me and ask "why can't my Linux
box play my MP3's?". Having the ability to play MP3s is perceived as
being basic functionality for a fully featured OS, and when this
function isn't "turnkey", it causes confusion. I think I've explained
this situation to various folks around 6 times now.
Yeah, yeah, I know all of the background behind this situation. It's
just unfortunate, that's all.
