For the same reason why you probably have a car mechanic.  Sure, when
your wheel bearings need replacing, you *could* fix this yourself.
But perhaps having your mechanic do the work for you would be more
advantageous for you?

Business views Linux as a technology that can be used as part of a
solution.  Business runs on solutions, not technology.  Support is
often the thing that transforms a technology into a solution.
