    You must've had the "dpkg" command to install all that (dpkg works as 
the back end of apt-get).  You can do a "dpkg --purge gdm" and it'll delete 
gdm for you.

    Another easier solution if you have mv is to do a "mv /etc/init.d/gdm 
/etc/init.d/gdm.stop".  I use that tactic frequently to stop a service from 
loading at startup.
