Does the company you work for operate any sort of NMS?  If so, which
one?  Is SNMP running on these devices and can you access this?  These
systems can often tell you exactly what your network topology looks
like.

If the answer to these questions is no, then you might want to
investigate one of the free NMS systems available, or else you could
hack something together with Expect, Perl, bailing twine, and chicken
wire.  I certainly wouldn't be grabbing those tables one at a time
like you describe, if I could help it.  It ought to be possible to
grab the data once and sift through it.  Having the management IPs of
your switches and routers would be a good thing to track down here.
