I agree.  Most M$-centric VPN's I've seen were PPTP though... including 
the one I'm logged into right now.

Personally I like the concept of port-knocking (recently on 
Slashdot)+ssh tunnels... even though I'd need to tweak Portsentry to 
accept it.
