I've been happy with SuSE for the past couple of years. It has both
GNOME and KDe OOB. Nearlay all the software you want is available on the
installation DVD (or CDs). In includes OpenOffice.org1.1 on the DVD. I
have not checked if it supports ATI dual head. Also, SuSE is relatively
strong financially being part of Novell. Mandrake was recently in the
French bankruptcy court, but you can download MandrakeMove a standalone
bootable CD. (Knoppix is more complete and automatic and Dynebolic is
automatic). 

I downloaded MandrakeMove mainly for the disk partitioner, but qtparted
is pretty much the same.
