Outlook express smtp auth against linux

Hi folks - I'm running into a problem that I was hoping somebody might
have some ideas on.

I'm running a debian server box with exim on it. I've set up exim to
require tls smtp authentication if they want to relay. At this point,
it works just hunky dory with evolution, but outlook (and outlook
express) doesn't seem to know how to handle it.

If I put exim into full debug mode, I see the authentication come
through with evolution, but with outlook/express it doesn't even seem to
make an attempt?

In outlook express, if I pull up the account profile, I go into the
"Servers" tab. Towards the bottom is a checkbox marked "My server
requires authentication" which I've turned on. In the associated
"Settings" dialog, I use hard coded values rather than the "Use same
settings as my incoming mail server" option. Account name is set. In
the "Advanced" tag, I've got "This server requires a secure connection
(SSL)" turned on for outgoing mail.

Can anybody see something I'm missing here?
