FWIW, this thread prompted me to revisit the SMTP AUTH problem, and I
got it working using what seems to be the exact same configuration I
was trying to use before.  I suspect that it was working before, but
my testing methods were broken...  Probably the result of another
altogether-too-late session sitting in front of the computer...
