I believe once Linux boots, it will see and use the HD without BIOS
limitations. The trick is it must first boot and that requires the BIOS
to see the portion of the HD containing the files needed to complete the
boot process. For example you can tell the BIOS there is no second
drive, but Linux will find and use the second drive.
