Verizon DSL

I use it with Debian as my gateway and firewall (Woody, the current stable
release). Overall, I'm very happy with it. I get great speed (not many
people using it in my town) and have had no hassles with Verizon.

Verizon's setup software makes you create their account with Windows or a
Mac. So I installed Windows, then installed their software, created my
account (which I'm guessing grabbed my NIC's MAC address and who knows what
else). Then, with my account info written down, I reformatted the machine
and installed a barebones install of Debian Woody. Using PPPoE I created my
account with the info I wrote down, and have never looked back (nor
reinstalled Windows:-).

I haven't bothered to check to see if Verizon is using a proxy. They give
you access to a pretty-much-complete news server (which is throttled during
the day, 180K+ in the night/mornings). To me, they're like an ISP should be:
everything I try works, they don't bother me, and I don't pester them. :-)

 Regards,
 .
 Randy
