Exchange, calendaring and IMAP [ mostly off-topic ]

Does anyone hear know if Exchange can be used *only* as an
addressbook/calendar server, while e-mail was maintained on an open
IMAP server?
I've recently been told "We're getting an Exchange Server"[1][2] for the
business/non-technical side of the company. Everyone else is staying
as-is, using our Kerberos-authenticated, Cyrus IMAP/SSL server.
Someone here mentioned we should just leave the windows weenies alone
as far as e-mail is concerned, and let them do their
calendar/addressbooks on Exchange. This sounds like a great idea in
theory, but as we all know, we don't live there.
Anyone seen this done, or attempted this? Is it possible/practical to
do such a thing, or should I just keep quiet and let the
windows-weenies go their own way?

[1] For those of you concerned about my sanity and mental welfare, I
thank you. However, I've also been told the entire thing,
maintenance, etc. is all being outsourced and a properly constructed
SEP field will be erected around this environment :)
[2] I've so far settled on the hostname of 'morris'. The significance
of which should be apparent. And no, it's not the cat. Someone
did suggest to "just admit defeat up front and call it 'owned'"
but I don't want to blatantly insult these people[3]. Which is
also why I didn't settle on other amusing suggestions of
'encephelopathy', 'anathema', or 'fud'.
[3] I requested of a few people suggestions for a hostname. The
guidelines for the name were: It must be clever, insulting, and
derogatory towards MS, Windows, Exchange, or any combination
thereof. However, it must be subtle enough that non-geeks "won't
get it" and amusing enough that geeks will find it very funny.
Feel free to provide me with more options.
