Really?  Huh, interesting.  I guess I haven't thought about it enough,

I guess it has a lot to do with your usage model.  I open all
"windows" on the remote system.  My definition of "window" is a single
shell instance.  I run most of these in a single xterm within screen.

I currently have 7 different screen sessions running with a total of
71 shell instances within them.  Most of these shell instances are ssh
sessions to other systems, some contain instances of emacs, etc.
