The root cause of djb's problems are his rejection of the Cathedral and 
Bazaar model.  He's all about the Cathedral (one might say Ivory Tower) 
and eschews the Bazaar.  His code is well done, but when the software 
doesn't do this thing or that thing you need and you're faced with 
using multiple sometimes-incompatible 3rd party patches which aren't 
guaranteed to be available for the next release [background: he rarely, 
if ever, accepts patches] - well, it's hard to base anything serious on 
it, so you just go use bind and postfix.
