A few years ago I worked for LANCity->Bay Networks DOCD->Nortel->Arris
Interactive, and as a result, was quite familiar with which cable
companies were decent providers and which ones were problematic (this
was mid-bubble era).

I think Comcast might have been around, but no where near as big as
they are today. MediaOne was the one provider everyone wished they
could have because of their "live-on-the-bleeding-edge" style as
compared to companies like Cablevision and Adelphia... But even
though they were a good provider, and had the Internet service we all
wanted, they were also known to have lots of problems. Frequent and
long outages, admins who didn't know what they were doing, an overall
lack of unsderstanding of how to run an ISP, etc. So, my expectations
were exceedingly low when Comcast bought them and finally came into my
town. However, I've been amazingly impressed. They're service has
been grea, I can only think of one maybe two outages in the 3 years
I've had them for cable t.v., and only one outage in the 2 years I've
had them as an ISP (not counting the great DNS debacle of a few months
ago:)

I had heard horror stories of their phone service early, so it's good
to hear that things have changed in that service as well.

(who's over-all very pleased with Comcast as compared to his expectations:)
