I've always felt that claim was not really accurate; it's technically 
true only in the most simplistic sense.

The basic claim is that BSD is "more free" because it imposes absolutely 
no restrictions. The claim is that if I'm denied the right to do 
absolutely anything that I want, then I'm not truly free. "Absolutely 
anything" is all-inclusive; it automatically includes stomping all over 
other people's rights.

If I'm nedied the right to, for example, kidnap othjer people off the 
street and sell them into salvery overseas, does that mean I'm not truly 
free?

The GPL's "restrictions" essentially say you're denied the right to 
stomp on other people's freedoms. The way I look at it, that's "more 
free" in a more meanigful sense.
