So, I find that article rather condescending and racist. Just what I
need in the morning -- some liberal telling me I need the welfare state
solely because of my dermal chromatics.

Oh well, that's basically my ongoing peeve with the media and how it
categorizes people in general...

As far as Social "Security", it's socialism at its finest. It was a
failed system from the start, as now millions have come to rely on a
system that is fundamentally not sustainable. Whoops. One of the many
"pass the shit downstream to future generations" policies. THAT's the
real problem.

I hate continuing this OT thread, but I simply HAD to clarify this for
everyone. That is NOT some "liberal" telling you that we need a welfare
state. Assuming, in this case, was not a good idea.

If you're not aware, the Heritage Foundation is quite staunchly
conservative, so I think you took the wrong point away from the article.
The Foundation here is supporting the current Republican (I use that term
solely to mean the Party itself and its policies, not anyone who may
identify as a Republican) "talking point"--that Social Security is in
danger, but that it is a very vital institution that needs saving, etc (that
latter portion of the "point" being the appeal to senior citizens to keep
their votes; no politician with a shred of self-preservation would dare
publicly support dismantling the monolith that is Social Security).

In case you need backup, their "About" section: "Founded in 1973, The
Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute - a think tank -
whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based
on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual
freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense."

Again, sorry to keep the thread going, I just wanted people to be aware of
who the Foundation really is.
