  Everybody else has been offering congratulations.  I will offer you
something I think more appropriate: My condolences. ;-)

  Seriously, thanks a lot for taking on what has, historically, been a
difficult and consuming role, Dave.  I wish you great success.  If there is
anything I can do to help, don't hesitate to ask.  (Note that I'm not
promising I'll say "Yes" when asked, but I do promise to at least listen to
the request.)

  I can offer you the following observations that may help you:

  - There is no such thing as too much advance notice
  - Volunteers work best when led by a ring in their nose
  - Communication is essential
