Java on Debian (wow that was easy!)

   It's not really hard.  With the current Stable/Sarge release (or later), 
all one has to do is to download Sun's (or some other) JVM.  The Debian 
package "java-package" will then make a nice *.deb out of Sun's Java install.

   It's as easy as doing something like "fakeroot make-jpkg 
jre-1_5_0_04-linux-i586.bin" to create a 
"sun-j2re1.5_1.5.0+update04_i386.deb" file that's ready to install with 
apt-get or dpkg.

   (Are there shortcomings to java-package that I'm not aware of?)
