Stoopid power fail question.

Yea - most modern BIOSs have a setting where you can tell the system to return
to the state it was when when the power was disconnected.  Thus, if it was on,
turn back on, and if it was powered off, stay off.

Ehh.  It depends.  If you can communicate with the UPS and shut down cleanly a
few minutes before the battery dies, you'll be okay to restart.  Just remember
to halt and not poweroff or else you'll conflict with #1 above.

I've seen Linux respond pretty well to just yanking the power.  That being 
said, if it's a server and you want to make sure your data doesn't get munged,
get a battery backed RAID card.  Also of concern would be if you're running
software like Oracle that doesn't really like being turned off in an
inconsistent state.  You're really better off getting the serial cable wired
up and just halting.
