Hehe, this subject title on usenet is like kicking a bees nest. :)

I them both for different reasons. I do find Theo's rhetoric a little over
the top in most cases. It's not so black and white for me. I run FreeBSD 4.8
on my server and Linux on my laptop & workstation.

This article has a lot of the things that are done well in the BSDs mentioned
and compares them to how they are done w/ Linux.

About the only point he makes that is sorta true is the development approach.
devfs/udev is a good example. Things tend to be re-written quite often in
Linux rather than spending time to come up with what might be the better
design up front. In the end I think Linux gets there but it's usually after some
mis-steps.

Linux is definitely not terrible. I have issues w/ certain parts of it, i.e.
I don't like how /proc has become a dumping ground. I guess in 2.6 there is
now /sys to help with that. I like the sysctl interface in FreeBSD
personally. Both have their good points and not so good points. I choose the
best one for the task at hand. My fiancee's computer gets Ubuntu, I use
Gentoo on my desktop. Having choices is nice.
