Useless doublespeak

Several weeks ago I sent an email to my Congressman, Jeb Bradley,
regarding the broadcast flag. Below is his lame response (but I suppose
a response is better than no response, even if I don't like the answer.)
If the broadcast flag affects my TiVo watching, not to mention the other
open exchange issues that will not be open any more...ARGH. (NOTE: I do
not, and am not advocating, free exchange of copyrighted material unless
put into the public domain by the work's owner or by operation of law.)

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Federal Communications
Commission's (FCC) proposed "broadcast flag". I appreciate your taking
the time to share your concerns with me on this important matter.

Rep. Mike Ross (D-AR) introduced H. Res. 230 on April 21, 2005. H. Res.
230 has been referred to the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the
Internet of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. This
legislation recommends that the FCC reconsider and revise rules
governing broadband systems.

I understand you are concerned about the FCC's regulation of
unauthorized redistribution of over-the-air TV broadcasts, commonly
referred to as the "broadcast flag". With the increased ability of
millions of users to copy, share or trade copyrighted material for free,
Congress has been working on legislation to combat this piracy without
prohibiting the private exchange of material. I will work to see that
this necessary balance is maintained in legislation.

You may also be interested to know that H. Res. 230 recommends that
public review and comments be made a part of their comprehensive
evaluation process. I have taken your concerns into consideration and
will keep them in mind should this legislation move to the floor of the
House of Representatives for a vote.

Thank you again for expressing your views on this issue. Please do not
hesitate to contact me with your thoughts, concerns, or ideas as that
better enables me to work hard for the citizens of New Hampshire. For
more information on issues that may be of interest to you, I encourage

Yours truly,

Jeb Bradley
