I had that same problem with IDE sleds. A few months ago, I picked up
a usb2 card and a usb2 drive enclosure that could hold the IDE tray
mechanism, and it works great. I do need to power-cycle the drive
enclosure when I swap sleds, but I no longer have to reboot the PC
to swap them.
