Nothing better than Wordpress: open source, well written, great plugin
system, easy to work with to design, easy to pull apart and build into
other things. I've set it up for a couple things for work
(http://nkms.com/nkmsblog/ is one of them), and I use it myself and will
be setting it up once work moves to the new website, and we add blogs.

Categories, multiple authors, whatever you want, Wordpress has got it.
