CentraLUG meeting last night

Sorry, the remark didn't have much context. We were talking about the
state archives and how the government has a legitimate concern about
being able to retain and retrieve documents. Electronic storage
introduces new questions, which Massachusetts is struggling through now.

Someone asked if we'd been to the NH Archives, as he has had occasion
to do. He stated that the archivists could help you locate documents
from a particular agency and/or year, but that individual departments
were responsible for what was actually archived. You would be guided
to a set of white boxes, perhaps dozens for a productive agency, and
would then need to wade into the boxes to locate a particular
document. All of us had visions of the closing scenes from Indiana
Jones where the Arc of the Covenant is towed off into a warehouse so
large its far end disappears into the haze.
