RAID autodetect?

The first disk is marked bootable, and has the bootloader on it (which works).

/etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf has correct lines in it, BUT I'm trying to use
the kernel autodetect, not the mdadm autodetect... which, as I
understand, happens before the filesystem (and thus
/etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf) is mounted.

My fstab has the RAID line setup in it correctly, as it works once I
manually start the array with mdadm... but I want root on the RAID,
which means the RAID has to be assembled before anything except grub
and the kernel are up.

I've made an initrd (for what it's worth) for the new kernel, and am
using the correct one in that grub conf section, but that shouldn't
even matter... since the RAID drivers are compiled statically into the
kernel rather than as modules.

RARGH why doesn't this work? :-P

I love computers. :-)
