Forwarded message from Stephen A. Cochran
<stephen.a.cochran at Dartmouth.EDU>:

As many of you are aware, Dartmouth College has committed to assisting
in the efforts to recover from hurrricaine Katrina. Dartmouth College's
efforts are currently focused on providing support in Biloxi and Pass
Christian. These communities have both requested technical assistance
with reestablishing internet connectivity. Already a shipment of used
computers are headed to them, but as of right now the infrastructure
equipment and networking expertise are missing.

I have volunteered to help set up networks in these communities for use
by the local governments and schools. At some point I will be traveling
down there for the actual hands on work of hooking everything together,
but right now we are gathering as much information as possible about
the equipment they do have, the sites that will be networked, etc.

While we are still in the early stages of identifying needs, networking
equipment in general is going to be high on the list. Switches, hubs,
wireless APs, and network cable will all be necessary to accomplish our
goals.

This message is simply to spread the word and let you know what we're
working on. I will be setting up a web site as we gather more
information and identify specific needs. If you have equipment to
donate, time to volunteer, or simply want to continue receiving emails
on this project, send me an email. This is a chance to work locally
with others in the technical area to help make a difference.
