Quite likely you are running kdm. Then choose KDE as you session type,
when logging in. Set it as default, when prompted. Even if it switched
to gdm, options are essentially the same.

Since it "boots into Gnome", I understand you don't do `startx`. If
nevertheless you do, edit or create ~/.xsession file and add 'startkde'
line there.
