I would hardly consider myself a pro in the BSD arena, but I also wanted to see what else was out there, and just kind of stuck with Open/Free BSD. I haven't used FreeBSD, but I've heard only good things about it. Especially the ports collections (BSD all around).

I try not to sound like a zealot or an elitist, but I enjoy getting at the internals of my operating system, the less bloat the better. I used to use slackware, it was nice and barebones. I use Redhat ES at work, and I'm happy the headway it's making in the server market, but it just isn't for me. Too much eye candy or something, I can't put my finger on it. I like my console! I use windows for a desktop, and BSD for server, and they both serve me well.

I'd be interested in hearing any negative experiences people have had with BSD, give myself a more rounded outlook.
